Spotlight on Community Care: Willing Helpers Free Clinic

If you live in Newton, Rockdale, or DeKalb County, you probably know how tough it can be to find affordable medical care—especially if you don’t have insurance. That’s where Willing Helpers Free Clinic steps in. Since 2006, this incredible nonprofit has been a safety net for neighbors throughout our area, welcoming anyone in need with open arms and expert care.

Willing Helpers Free Clinic isn’t just a place to see a doctor. It’s a caring community hub—offering everything from free medical visits and bloodwork to prescription medications, nutritional counseling, mental health support, and even prayer and discipleship for anyone who asks. Last year alone, Willing Helpers delivered over 4,000 medical visits, provided $3.5 million in essential care, filled $1.8 million in prescriptions, and saved our local hospitals more than a million dollars in uncompensated care. Every bit of this is made possible by the generosity of local donors and the dedication of volunteers who believe that healthcare should be for everyone.

Hey Mimosa Family, Hope everyone is enjoying the last stretch of summer and settling into September! We’ve got a few important updates and reminders to keep things running smoothly for all. Facility Updates Let’s start with the big one: HVAC repairs. This summer was a scorcher, and keeping everyone cool and comfortable didn’t come cheap. We’ve invested over $9,000 in HVAC maintenance and repairs these past few months. While we’re happy to keep the space feeling good, it does mean we need to hit pause on the second half of the flooring project for now. We appreciate your patience and understanding—our plan is to circle back to the flooring as soon as it makes sense financially. Happy Hot Summer from Mimosa Salon Suites Stonecrest! We hope you’re enjoying the sunshine and staying cool as we roll through another Georgia summer. There’s a lot going on—both in the world and here at Mimosa—and we wanted to share some important updates. HVAC Update & Rent Transparency First, thank you for your patience as we’ve dealt with the recent HVAC challenges. We want you to know that one reason our rents are so affordable is because of our triple net lease. In short: the landlord handles the building’s structure and roof, but Mimosa is responsible for everything else, including maintaining and repairing the HVAC systems. When we first moved in, our HVAC units were in great shape, but a 2020 law banning R22 refrigerant has made maintenance much tougher and more expensive. Completely replacing the units would cost up to $60,000—a huge investment for buildings we don’t own, and one that would make it impossible to keep rent as low as they are now. The good news: Conyers is 100% right now and at Stonecrest three out of four units are working, and the suites are holding steady at a comfortable 72 degrees. By Monday, we expect all four to be running strong, so we’re optimistic we’ll make it through the summer without a major replacement. We’re committed to keeping you informed and to keeping rents affordable. We will not raise rents unless there’s absolutely no other choice. Brighter Days for the Economy On a happier note, we’re seeing some positive trends in the economy. More jobs are opening up, some costs (like some food and other costs) are finally coming down, and business confidence is ticking upward. That means more opportunities for everyone in our salon community—whether you’re growing your client base or just enjoying a little less pressure on your wallet. 🌟 Update from Mimosa Salon Suites Stonecrest! 🌟 This month at Mimosa Salon Suites, we’re seeing record-breaking temperatures roll in just as July 4th festivities approach. In this edition, we’re sharing our top tips for staying cool and celebrating safely, so you can enjoy the holiday and the summer heat without worry. Top Tips for Staying Cool This July: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you’re not thirsty. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat if you’re outdoors. Try to stay indoors during the hottest parts of the afternoon. Use fans or air conditioning whenever possible. If you’re headed to a barbecue or outdoor event, pack a spray bottle with cold water for a quick cool-down. Don’t forget sunscreen and take breaks in the shade. Make Mimosa Great Again! I won't lie to you. Between COVID, Joe Biden and Larry Covington, Mimosa has paid a great price to continue to help as many people as we can. We are finally getting things back to normal and making many improvements. We're thrilled to share some exciting progress at Mimosa Salon Suites! Our renovation journey is well underway, with the flooring installation now almost halfway complete. Walking through the space, we can already envision the elevated experience that awaits you! While we're working hard to minimize any disruption to your services, we can't help but get excited about what's coming next. Tiffany Myles | Obituary

Tiffany Myles, a beloved mother and passionate hairstylist who touched countless lives through her artistry and warm spirit, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Her gentle hands and creative vision helped clients not just look their best, but feel their best. Throughout her years-long fight with cancer, Tiffany showed remarkable strength and grace, never letting her illness dim her bright smile or dampen her love for her craft. She continued styling hair as long as she could, finding joy in helping others feel beautiful even during her own difficult journey. As a mother, Tiffany's love knew no bounds. She approached parenthood with the same dedication and artistry she brought to her profession, weaving beautiful memories that will last a lifetime. Her creative spirit and nurturing nature made her not just a mother to her own children, but a maternal figure to many in her community. Those who sat in her styling chair knew they were in the presence of someone special - a woman who could transform not just hair, but spirits. Her salon was more than a place of business; it was a haven where stories were shared, friendships were formed, and everyone was family. Even in her final days, Tiffany's courage never wavered. She faced each challenge with determination and grace, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, the beauty she created, and the love she shared so generously. She will be deeply missed by her children, family, friends, and the countless clients who became part of her extended family over the years. May she rest in Heaven and God Bless Her Soul. ~doug h

Big Challenges & Perseverance Dear Friends, We're excited to share some important updates about our ongoing facility improvements. Our top priority is ensuring you have the resources you need to provide exceptional service to your clients. Hot Water System Upgrade We're installing a new 50-gallon backup hot water heater with a recirculation pump system. This significant upgrade will: Deliver hot water faster to all suites Maintain consistent water pressure throughout the building Provide reliable backup capacity during peak usage Reduce water waste while waiting for hot water The recirculation pump is specifically designed to eliminate those frustrating wait times for hot water to reach your suite. This means you'll have instant access to hot water when you need it, allowing for more efficient scheduling and improved client experience. Flooring Update To properly complete the hot water system installation and ensure everything is working perfectly, we've adjusted our timeline for the planned flooring updates. The flooring project will now begin in [month, two months from now]. This slight adjustment allows us to focus on getting the water system exactly right - which we know is crucial for your daily operations. Thank you for your continued partnership. Here are our top tips to help you make the most of this love-filled season: Valentine’s Day Packages: Bundle services that complement each other, such as a massage and facial, or a haircut and styling session. Offering these packages at a special rate can entice clients to indulge and treat themselves or a loved one. Partner with your neighbor to offer better packages! Gift Cards Galore: Encourage your clients to purchase gift cards as Valentine’s gifts. Promote them with a small discount or offer a bonus gift card for every purchase over a certain amount. It's a perfect way for clients to share the salon love! Social Media Love: Use your social media platforms to showcase your Valentine’s Day offerings. Share before-and-after photos, client testimonials, and even a behind-the-scenes look at how you’re preparing for the holiday. Don’t forget to use hashtags to reach a wider audience! New Year, New Floors: Exciting Updates at Mimosa Salon Suites Happy New Year to our wonderful Mimosa family! We're starting 2025 with some exciting news that will make our space even more beautiful and functional for both our suite owners and clients. Mark your calendars: This April, we're giving our floors a complete makeover. After years of faithful service (and countless services), our current flooring has earned its retirement. We're investing in flooring in the hallways that will not only look great but also provide better wear and tear for those many thousands of clients coming to the suites every year! The installation is planned to roll out in phases to minimize disruption to your business. We're working with our people to ensure the smoothest possible transition, with most work scheduled during off-peak hours. We'll share the detailed schedule and specific arrangements in our February newsletter. This flooring upgrade is just one of the improvements we have planned for 2025.
